Your business is extremely important to you.

One of the biggest decisions you’ll ever make is choosing the right salon software computer system.

You simply can’t afford to make the wrong choice.

That’s why it’s vital that you discover the truth about your salon software computer system by asking each of the following questions.

1. 70% of Stylists and Therapists Hate Using Computers

– Does the training you’ll get take this into account?

The training you’re offered is THE MOST IMPORTANT aspect of buying a system. If it isn’t good enough to train you and your team so that you totally comfortable using the software - then it’s a waste of money.

Stylists and therapists go into the business to give provide their clients with a great service not to use computers.

The best type of training you can get is at an offsite location. You can take your time and be trained to use the software over a number of hours in a comfortable environment. It is much better than onsite training with your team clustered around one screen.

You also need to make sure the company can easily provide training to your new team members when they join you.

Ask to speak to other salon owners who use the software you’re considering.  See what they thought of the training, and the trainer.

2.  Do you get a FREE onsite Demonstration?

A lot of companies will send you a demo disk which you have to put into a computer to show you how their software works.

Then they’ll call you to see if you have any questions and then they’ll ask you to order it.

But let’s face it, it’s not easy to make a decision if you’ve only seen a demo disk.

Make sure you have free onsite visit from a rep showing you exactly how the software can work for you.

This is the only way you’ll know if you’ll be comfortable using it.

Ask the rep as many questions as you want to make sure the software is right for you.

3. Does the salon software come with a money back guarantee?

You’ll only really know if you’re happy with the salon software after using it for 1 or 2 months.

If you’re not happy with it you’ll want to make sure you get your money back.

If the company does offer a guarantee remember to find out what conditions are attached and how long the guarantee is for.  Like anything new it’s going to take you a while to get use to it and it’s pointless having a guarantee that only lasts 2 weeks.

4. Is your decision being influenced by "Gimmicks"?

A lot of companies will offer gimmicks to get people to buy - for example a free "Fingerprint Scanner" or "CCTV add-on".  They can be more of a nuisance than an asset.

Did you know that most beauty therapists can't use fingerprint scanners properly because their fingerprint is so worn down from using beauty products on their hands all the time?

Likewise in hair salons - fingerprint scanners collect a big residue of dust from all the hair spray so that you have to wipe it every time before using it slowing the speed of a system to a crawl at front desk.

5. Will the software stop working if you don't pay an annual fee?

Some companies will actually shut down your software after the first year if you refuse to pay a support contract.

I’m sure you’d agree this is absolute madness. You’ve paid 6-7,000 for a system but you don't actually own it!

Make sure you check the small print and ask if the system will still work if you don't pay support.

6. What are the real ongoing costs?

There are other costs associated with having a salon software system that most companies won't tell you about.

For example how much will it cost to send out texts to your clients?

Depending on which company you choose this can vary from as little as 3c to 12c per text. If the average salon sends 1000 texts per month - it could cost you E90 extra per month or more depending on which software company they are using.

This is because most salon software companies outsource these costs to third parties and they have no control over them.

So make sure your chosen salon software company provides these services directly to keep your costs down. You don’t want to find yourself with huge monthly fees and nowhere to turn to.

7. Will your customers be able to book an appointment online?

Salons every day are seeing a steady increase in online bookings. If you don’t want to lose out on business you’ve got to let your customers make an appointment online.

Providing online bookings is 100% safe.  Your customers have to provide their full address, contact details and credit card number to make the online booking.  They will also be charged it they don’t show.

So if the software doesn’t come with a simple online booking system for your clients - don't touch it with a barge pole!

You will only end up having to fork out for another system within 2 years as your clients will shortly be demanding to be able to book this way if they haven't already.

The better companies will also provide a mini-website free of charge for your salon if you don't have one.

by offering seminars?

Make sure the salon software company provides seminars on growing your business, retail selling and customer service.

This is the single best way to keep yourself up to date and to dramatically increase your sales and your profit.

Your software should be an asset for your business, not another cost!
