This can be a fun game to play at a staff meeting. Melanie began by asking workshop attendees to stand at opposite ends of the room based on whether they saw themselves as more action-led or more thoughtful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>When there\u2019s a job at hand to get done, do you rush right in and get to work, or do you prefer to think through the options before taking action?<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This alone can determine if you\u2019re at the upper end of the DiSC circle &#8211; <em>dominant and influencing, or at the lower end<\/em> &#8211; conscientious and steady. Her scenario: Imagine that each of these personality types were to go into a store to buy a washing machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\">Having likely done their research online, the&nbsp;<strong>\u2018dominant\u2019 personality<\/strong>&nbsp;already knows what they want and is looking for a store assistant to provide it<\/span> with swift service.<\/span> They wouldn\u2019t want any opinion or upsell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>\u2018influencer\u2019 personality<\/strong> would be a bubbly character, sharing with the store assistant the story of their needs and what they want from a washing machine, discussing the different options, and seeking the assistant\u2019s opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The<strong> \u2018steady\u2019 personality<\/strong> will probably have done a mix of both. They&#8217;ll have considered their needs and researched models online, but they\u2019ll also want the store assistant to share their opinion or stories about how a certain machine was perfect for someone like them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And finally, the<strong> \u2018conscientious\u2019 personality<\/strong> will have meticulously researched everything about washing machines in advance, including the spin speed, load weight, energy consumption, drum size, and so on. They can then use this information to sell retail products to them in a way that will resonate better with them.
