You’re always standing and you probably live in your salon more than you actually live in your house! But what happens when you hit that threshold that brings you from “tired” to “exhausted”? Your salon productivity takes a hit.
When I get off my efficiency pattern – which might be your case too, we’re all human after all- I tend to let little undone things build up, only to then realise I have a huge project coming up and then get stressed out because I have the big AND small things to accomplish at the same time, in a much shorter amount of time.
We thought it could be helpful for you to come into the weekend with some ideas on how to work through exhaustion to restore your motivation and salon productivity. Enjoy! 😉
7 Ideas To Motivate Yourself And Restore Salon Productivity
Make a “Brain Dump”
Salon productivity really can only be restored if you put the finger on what is making you feel stressed and exhausted. Grab a paper and a pen and start listing any tasks, deadlines, ideas you’re thinking about. Keep that list at hand and go back through it as the day goes by. At some point, your mind will stop stressing over the thoughts you wrote down, making it easier to focus on the day ahead.
Define one goal and get started
Slumps happen. They often occur when you have a hard time seeing the overall picture of everything that’s going on at once. Pick one thing you really want or need to accomplish and get started. If you’re exhausted try getting over the hump of actually starting to work on your task, you’re much more likely to work on it until it’s done.
Look through magazines, browse the web, go for a walk on your break (if you get one)…! Depending on what your goal is, sometimes all it takes to rebuild personal motivation when fatigue is taking over is reading about success stories you can relate to.
Make or re-work your to-do list
If you find yourself dragging behind tasks, restore your salon productivity with an effective to-do list. Think about the goal you want to accomplish by the end of the day, write it down and break it into small manageable steps.
Commit publicly and delegate when needed
Human nature makes it that we don’t like looking bad in public. Tell a coworker what you want to accomplish and by when. Accountability works miracles but you can’t always be a superhero!!! Don’t be afraid of delegating tasks to fellow coworkers.
Take a 5-minute meditation break
Life in a salon is fast-paced. Use that rare break time to meditate and see how longer you can stay focused on your tasks. No need to be experienced at meditation; apps like Headspace and Calm offer 5 to 15 minutes guided meditation sessions so you’ll still fully enjoy the benefits of it.
Snack with high energy foods
Fast paced work environments often rhyme with coffee for lunch, but actually eating something will have a direct impact on salon productivity. Give your brain that sufficient supply of food or at least eat an energy bar to go along with that coffee!
Think about the benefits and the positive, not the difficulties
Try recognising negative self-talk and replace those thoughts by their positive equivalent! Adopt a can-do positive attitude. It may sound ridiculous, but it really helps. At last, learn how to deal with daily distractions to keep your focus!
It seems impossible at times, but don’t stop! Slumps don’t last forever. Maybe consider taking some time to treat yourself with a spa day soon though. 😉
