Financial Fitness Essentials, or How to Make the Most of What You Earn
Part 1 of the ‘Money Talks!’ series

“Data from the 2024 index reveals how financial literacy in the US has hovered around 50% for eight consecutive years, with a 2% drop in the past two years. In the European Union (EU), a quarter of respondents scored low for knowledge in the 2023 Eurobarometer survey on financial literacy, with 18% at a low level of financial literacy.”*
Now, this is a problem: making money and knowing how to manage it are two very different things.
You might have your magic lifestyle number (the amount of money you’d ideally like to save for a specific goal, such as retirement, buying property, or a car), but without an action plan and the financial literacy to make it happen, you might be losing thousands when you could instead be closing the gap between your dreams and reality. Unfortunately, the majority of us aren’t taught these financial skills.
Hence, we’re running this two-part series of Money Talks discussions designed for salon, spa, and clinic business owners and their staff. This first discussion aims to teach financial fitness and literacy essentials, encourage better savings and spending habits, and explore ways owners can create an open dialogue with staff around money and support them in managing tips effectively.
TL;DR? Here’s the lowdown.
Financial fitness basics: we’ll be talking about budgeting, savings, debt management, and credit
Money-smart mindset shifts: the importance of setting up a simple budget and tracking all sources of income, including tips
Practical tools and tips: how to create an open dialogue around money, providing resources for staff to learn more, and more
Facilitated by Global Education Content Lead and PhorestFM’s resident host Alex Bélisle-Springer, the session will feature UK award-winning accountant and business advisor Gloria Murray as well as a soon-to-be-revealed US-based salon owner who, for years, has successfully created this open dialogue with staff.
There will be a little something for everyone in this discussion, and we look forward to seeing you!
