How Watching Netflix Can Help You Grow Your Salon Business

It’s been a long day at work and you are delighted to get home. You’ve had dinner and the kids are tucked into bed and so hooray! It’s finally some me-time! Who wants to work on salon business? If you are anything like me, me-time involves crashing on the couch, putting on a film or a show, and then proceeding to play with my phone until it’s time to go to bed. In short, a great time to relax and charge up for the next day. However, if you’re more of the don’t-stop-won’t-stop kind of person, this Netflix allocated time is also a great opportunity to grow your salon business!

Don’t believe me? Well, allow me to explain…

7 Almost Effortless Ways To Grow Your Salon Business While You Chill

While you sit there, casually playing with your phone while Orange Is The New Black or Game Of Thrones rattles on in the background, you are missing an amazing opportunity to connect with your clients, grow your online audience and boost your salon business.

1. Schedule Your Social Posts For The Week

Did you know that you can schedule posts to go out on Facebook and Instagram in advance? Why put yourself through the stress of having to post manually every single day? Instead, just relax on the couch and casually organise your week’s social content in advance.

2. Grow Your Twitter and/or Instagram Followers

This one couldn’t be simpler. All you have to do is lie down on the couch, find a competitor’s social media account and start following their followers. When you follow someone on Twitter or Instagram, there is a high chance that they follow you back. Think of it as simply saying hello at a dinner party – albeit, a large dinner party! ;).

This technique also works for a various type of social accounts. For instance, perhaps a local beauty or lifestyle blogger. Which leads us nice and neatly to the fact that many people forget that building your salon business on social media works best when you are actually social! That means that it isn’t just a one-way stream of communication. How about you log into Twitter, look for somebody who has retweeted or liked a comment you have made and then simply ask them a question?

Keep it light and fun. Do this with a handful of people, and soon enough you will find yourself positioned in the midst of a variety of fun, light conversations with people that could eventually book an appointment with your salon.

3. Work On Your SOP Manual

An SOP (Salon/Spa Operation Procedures) Manual, in a nutshell, contains every single procedure, each written as detailed as possible to ensure your business’ vision is respected and applied to any scenarios that could potentially arise in your salon. If you do have one; when was the last time you took the time to update it? Take a few minutes to do so on the couch and in less than 2 weeks you’ll have plowed through the whole thing!

4. Comment On Blogs By Industry Leaders

Industry leaders and high-profile personalities could really help you grow your business. And all you have to do is give them some attention. Simply locate any bloggers or YouTubers who have a nice following -and try to keep it localised to your city if you can- and then start commenting on their posts (but don’t harass them either!). When you show them that you’re listening to what they’re saying, they will be quicker to listen to what you have to say. Just like in real life, right?

5. Create Your To-Do List

I’m a big fan of to-do lists. However, I feel like a to-do list carries a lot of pressure. The Productivity Project, a book by Chris Bailey, instead suggests taking on what he calls the Rule of 3 – a concept introduced by J.D. Meier. Too often, we start our day with a crystal-clear plan of things to get done throughout the day, only to see those hopes get crushed by 10:00 AM (if not earlier, most times). The Rule of 3 helps you make more achievable goals.

How it works:

  • Identify 3 things you need to get done in over the course of the week.
  • Every day, pick out 3 goals you’d like to accomplish by the time you go to sleep.

Simple as. To quote the Blinkist app‘s synopsis of the book, “By looking ahead at what you want to have accomplished both day by day and week by week, you’re already figuring out how best to structure your time, attention and energy on what’s important.”
